Speaking in Garissa County on Monday, Ruto said the government will intervene in the matter concerning the entry grades into teachers colleges.

Last week, teachers from North Eastern had expressed their anger following a decision by the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) to reject a proposal to lower the minimum entry points to teachers training colleges (TTC).

This is after the Kenya National Qualifications Authority (KNQA) had recommended a review of entry grade into the teacher's colleges from C to D+.

DP Ruto said the Ministry of Education will find a solution to the matter adding that the education sector in the region has been affected due to insecurity.

While speaking to North Eastern leaders, DP Ruto urged the leaders to mobilize students to take up teaching jobs to bridge the gap saying that the region is marginalized and lacked enough teachers.

“The Ministry of Education will resolve the standoff on the admission of students to teachers training colleges. I want to give you my assurance that the national government is committed to matters of education in this region,” he said.

Due to insecurity and attacks from Al-Shabaab militants, non-local teachers have left the region leaving most schools without enough teachers.
