Speaking in Ikalaasa on Thursday, Syomwai said that a lot of people in the region mostly youths have no identification or voter cards.

She observed that for one to be registered in the programme, an identification card will be mandatory to enable one access free medical care.

"I know most of you here and most youths have no identification cards, how do you expect to benefit from government programmes without identification? To our youths, make sure you secure an identification card not only for the universal health care but also a lot of chances that may come your way," said Syomwai.

The MCA further disclosed that Machakos residents unlike Makueni and Kitui counties won't be required to pay a single cent for the registration of the Universal Health Care (UHC).

"It's free for Machakos residents, for Kitui and Makueni they had to part with some amount of money for the registration but we are fortunate we won't have to pay anything, the more reason you people should be ready," she said.

Approximately 1.3 million people in the county are set to benefit from the programme.

The project is part of the World Bank-sponsored pilot programme.

Other counties set to benefit include Isiolo, Kisumu and Nyeri.
