President Uhuru Kenyatta’s succession debate continues to take centre stage in public events.

Deputy President William Ruto’s allies are now mounting pressure on Uhuru to declare his stand before that time comes.

Nandi Governor Stephen Sang and MPs Oscar Sudi (Kapseret) and Caleb Kositany (Soy) have asked the command in chief of the armed forces to reveal whether he intends to remain in power after he completes his second term in office.

Speaking at Ziwa in Soy constituency, Uasin Gishu County, during the burial of Mzee Abraham Tirop Barsiari, the leaders said that Ruto deserves Uhuru’s support before that time comes.

They insisted that Ruto has been very loyal to the command in chief of the armed forces.

They urged the President not to politicize the war against graft.

Sang warned Uhuru against entertaining his friendship with African High Representative on Infrastructure Development Raila Amolo Odinga following the handshake.

They insisted that time has come for Ruto to rise to power upon the retirement of Uhuru.

“Ruto is the son of God and Kenyans. The son of a peasant should be President,” said Mr Sang.

The handshake between Uhuru and Ruto is considered a great threat to the Ruto’s rise to power.

Ruto has been opposing the push for a referendum. He has objected the creation of the post of the Prime Minister and reducing the number of counties.

On his part, Raila has said that the referendum is unstoppable.
