A prisoner has been forced to undergo a surgery after a mobile phone stuck in his tummy.

The latter is an inmate at the Manyani Maximum Security Prison.

The inmate is said to have swallowed the gadget in an attempt to conceal it from prison wardens.

An X-Ray test revealed that the phone got stuck in his rectum. According to the nation, this forced for the intervention of doctors, resulting to an operation at the Moi County Referral Hospital in Voi.

The operation was confirmed by the hospital's Medical Superintendent Kagona Gitau.

He said that the latter is under observation after the surgery to retrieve the phone was successful.

The paper reports that his attempts to conceal the phone went bad when it refused to come out, resulting to severe pain. He could also not pass stool for 3 days.

The incident was also confirmed by a prison officer in charge Nicholas Maswai who said that the inmate will face punitive measures upon full recovery.

He added that the gadget was most likely one of the techniques used by inmates to defraud members of the public.
