The County Government of Mombasa through its Department of Education on Tuesday, January 7, commenced the recruitment of youth interested in the Mombasa City Polytechnic Scholarship Programme.
The recruitment which ends on January 11, kicked off across all the six sub-counties with youth turning up in large numbers. The youth seek to take various Technical and Vocational courses in their city polytechnics.
The courses include: mechanical engineering, welding and fabrication, seafaring, refrigeration and air conditioning, automotive engineering, motor vehicle mechanics and electrician, electrical and electronics, building technology, fashion and design, food and beverage, cosmetology (hairdressing and beauty therapy) and ICT.
A notice from the department said short courses will be derived from the above list of long courses.
"The County Government will pay 70% of the total fee," read the joint notice from Director Vocational Training - Department of Education, ICT and Mombasa Vision 2035.
Potential candidates are required to have scored D+ and below. KCPE graduates and drop outs are encouraged to register.
The youth are required to carry original certificates and national ID card (for those who are above 18 years).
A spot check at various centres revealed that the exercise went on as scheduled without any hitches.
Recruitment is being held at:
1. Mvita - Tononoka Social Hall.
2. Kisauni and Nyali - Kisauni Youth Polytechnic.
3. Changamwe and Jomvu - Changamwe Fire. Offices.
4. Likoni - Mrima DECECE offices.
