Mr Kennedy Mong'are, his first cousin, had been nominated to fill two of vacant slots in the recruitment body, but the decision lasted for few days following public outcry.

"Seems the pressure was too much and he couldn't contain it. There were so many anomalies in the nomination of Mr Mong'are and David Nyachiro.

"It's true that they never applied and the governor awarded them letters due to his close relationship with them. He had no otherwise than to cancel," said a senior official privy to the appointments.

While Mr Mong'are is first cousin to Governor Nyagarama, Mr Nyachiro is brother to the county boss's attorney Jones Nyachiro, a reason why they could have been favoured.

But nomination of Pauline Oyugi, the governor's sister-in-law as Trade and Tourism minister stands since her name has been reportedly forwarded to assembly for vetting.

Activist Vincent Omao said he had already prepared a petition to block nominations to CPSB citing breach of the law.

"They never applied and no ad-hoc committee was formed to interview them. I had already filed a petition to challenge the nomination," he said.

The governor is also facing criticism over several other relatives in cabinet and his office with preliminary investigations showing that four ministers are directly related to him.
