The increasing number of women turning to prostitution has raised concern among many leaders in Mombasa County.
Besides singles, married women are now turning to prostitution because of several reasons. The hard economic times have made many women including the married ones to opt for this trade in order to earn a living.
Some women have confessed engaging in prostitution even after getting married.
In a past interview, the women admitted engaging in the trade to pay their bills. The women surprisingly said that the men in their husbands were aware of the business.
There are women who also said that they decided to turn to prostitution because their husbands were not meeting their bedroom services.
“I started doing it after four years of marriage. And this is because my husband was not satisfying me sexually. He was also not satisfying me in terms of money,” confessed one of the sex workers.
The women have continued to engage in prostitution despite the rising concern over the increased rate of HIV/AIDs infection among them.
It is worrying to note that some of the women engage in sex without using protection. These women are highly at a risk of contracting different diseases.
