Former Lagdera MP Farah Maalim has congratulated Macharia Njeru for clinching the Law Society of Kenya (LSK) slot in the Judicial Service Commission (JSC).
Maalim now wants the former Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) boss to use the opportunity to champion for reforms in the legal sector.
“Congrats to Macharia Njeru for clinching the LSK slot in the JSC. Please bring in the long-overdue reforms in the legal sector,” Maalim tweeted on Friday.
Maalim added: “Begin with yourself. This is the only jurisdiction I know of where a practising Advocate and a magistrate are employers of a Supreme Court Judge. Reform.”
Njeru garnered 2738 votes to clinch the JSC slot.
The former IPOA boss defeated his rival, veteran lawyer professor Tom Ojienda who garnered 2545 votes in the election carried out in 28 centres across the country on Thursday.
Prof Ojienda was defending the JSC slot and had served for five years since his election in 2013.
Ojienda had been touted as the favourite candidate to retain the slot.
Once sworn into office, Njeru will join 10 other members of the JSC that is chaired by Chief Justice (CJ) David Maraga.
