Emerging details indicate that Meru Governor Kiraitu Murungi's government has sacked one of its digital media officers over claims of irregular employment.
Ironically, Seth Mutugi's contract termination, in a letter dated February 27, came shortly after he moved to court to question the academic qualifications of Murungi, on grounds that he doesn't have a degree.
In a probe done by the county Public Service Board, it was found that the latter was irregularly hired in October 2014, hence his sacking.
"Investigations by the Meru County Public Service Board revealed that the process of your recruitment and appointment was irregular as the board never sat to discuss interview results and forward your name to the appointing authority,” the letter read in part, as was seen by the Standard.
However, in his defence, Mutugi has faulted his sacking, saying that it has links to his stand against corruption and impunity in the county.
In his suit, Mutugi also sued the county Youth, Gender and Sports Executive Daniel Kiogora M'Inoti, on grounds that he too lacks a valid degree.
The sack was defended by County Secretary Rufus Miriti who also heads the public service, who noted that such actions are provided for in section 75 of the county government act.
