Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua has asked all companies in the region to comply with environmental regulations failure to which an action will be taken against them.
Mutua on Tuesday took to social media stating that he will urgently engage Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko and his Kiambu counterpart Ferdinard Waititu to ensure environment is not polluted during their leadership.
Mutua said the regulations must be observed by all companies.
“Since 90 percent of Athi River's pollution is from Nairobi and Kiambu counties' companies, I will engage my fellow Governors Sonko and Waititu so as to enforce the law,” Mutua said.
The second term county boss said his government will not tolerate companies that do not meet the standards required for a clean environment.
Mutua said a clean environment is necessary for better living standards for the residents.
“I give companies in Machakos County, especially in Mavoko area up to end of this month to ensure they have complied fully with environmental regulations and are not dumping into the river. From next week, we will shut them down,” Mutua said.
