This is after he denounced a viral letter, purportedly from Interpol, containing names of high profile Kenyans allegedly linked to a drug trafficking case facing the Akasha brothers.

The office of DPP on Friday dismissed the letter, which lists senior politicians, Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) officials and members of the Judiciary as suspects in the narcotics trade, saying Haji has not officially received the document.

"The DPP Noordin Haji has not received the following letter circulating on social media purported to have been written by Interpol containing a list of wanted Kenyans for adversely being mentioned in the Akashas' drug case," read a post on ODPP official Twitter handle.

Itumbi wondered why Haji did not instruct the Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) George Kinoti to investigate the letter, just like it was the case when he was arrested for allegedly authoring and distributing a 'fake' letter alluding a plot to assassinate Deputy President William Ruto.

"So, DPP in the interest of equal application of the law....is DCI instructed to commence investigations? Or that only happens when it is FORWARDED on TangaTanga groups?" Itumbi posed.

Itumbi was arrested in early July and accused of posting the fake letter, purportedly from a Cabinet Secretary and addressed to President Uhuru Kenyatta, in a WhatsApp group identified as 'Tanga Tanga'.

Itumbi was freed after five days of detention on July 9 on Sh100,000 cash bail and ordered him to report every week to the officer investigating the assassination plot claim. The case is still ongoing.
