An alcoholic couple in Nyapara Inye village, Ibeno ward, Nyaribari Chache constituency in Kisii County killed their 4-months-old baby on Tuesday morning.
Confirming the incident area assistant chief, Mathew Ombongi said the couple, Benjamin Omosa and his wife Christine Nyaboke returned home drunk on Monday evening.
"The couple are alcohol addicts. They left a chang'aa den at 9.00 pm and on reaching the house, they slept on the baby boy identified as Ombongi Junior who was asleep in bed," said the chief.
The administrator said the couple notices that their son was dead at 4 am on Tuesday morning.
"Omosa and Nyaboke were sober and on checking the baby at 4 am, they found him dead. The deceased was sleeping in between them. The baby might have suffocated to death since the couple was under the influence of alcohol," he added.
He warned parents against chang'aa consumption saying the law will not spare anyone.
"It is sad that breastfeeding women have ventured into chang'aa consumption instead of concentrating on taking care of the babies. I am not going to condone parents neglecting their duties to consume chang'aa," he added.
The baby's body was moved to Kisii Teaching and Referral hospital morgue.
