Garissa Township MP Aden Duale is not new when it comes to political controversies.
The National Assembly Majority Leader has several times found himself in trouble over his statements and opinion.
On January 9, 2017, Duale found himself in hot soup over a statement he made during the burial of veteran Kalenjin politician Mark Too in Uasin Gishu County.
Duale irked supporters of Baringo Senator Gideon Moi over a statement that was interpreted as disrespectful and demeaning.
The Garissa MP while attacking Senator Moi allegedly said, “Sisi kama jamii ya wafugaji tilimbeba baba yako kwa mgongo kwa miaka mingi. Mimi ule mzee nimeoa msichana wake General Mohamed, alitoa baba yako kwa kichaka 1982 coup.”
The statement translates to (we as the pastoralists supported your father’s presidency for many years. My father in law personally carried your father (Moi) from the bushes during the 1982 coup).
Duale made the statement indicating that it is a must for Gideon Moi to support Deputy President William Ruto’s 2022 bid.
The Garissa MP was attacked by Moi’s allies who accused him of disrespecting the retired president family.
Led by Rift Valley Council of Elders chairman Jonathan Bii, Moi’s allies warned Duale against intruding into the regions affairs.
The elders even demanded for Duale’s apology.
“We were angered to hear Duale’s reckless talk about the respected Moi family,” the elders said.
Duale, however, defended his statement, saying that it was wrongly interpreted.
The Garissa MP said that he has great respect for the Moi family.
