Nyamerako Primary School headteacher Mr Albert Nyamete has confirmed why health officers closed the school indefinitely on Friday, June 14.
The headteacher told this writer in an interview on Sunday that health officers stormed the school and served him a letter to close the school.
"I was in my office in the afternoon on Friday when three health officers arrived in the school riding on a motorbike. I was served with a letter ordering the closure of the school immediately due to lack of pit latrines," he stated.
Nyamete said he tried to plead with the health officers not to close the school in vain.
According to him, the school has toilets only that they are being shared with a secondary school opened three years ago.
He said he applied for funds to help in the construction of the toilets but, he was told there was no money.
"I have been in touch with CDF officials to allocate funds for us to construct toilets in vain. I want to ask any well-wisher to help with funds to construct the toilets for the school to be re-opened," said Nyamete.
Nyamete assured parents that he is doing everything possible for the toilets to be constructed.
The school is found in Bogiakumu ward in Bonchari and has over 500 pupils.
