The popularity of these MPs comes in different measures both on the ground and on social media.

Here is a list of popular Members of Parliament in Kisumu County derived from their social media presence, specifically facebook:

1. Shakeel Shabbir

He is serving the third term as Kisumu East MP. He was first elected during the 2007 general elections on the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Party ticket in 2013 on the Orange Party’s ticket.

In 2017, he was elected for the third term as an independent candidate after falling out with ODM leadership during nominations. He has 4, 917 friends on facebook.

2. Rozaah Akinyi Buyu

She is serving her first term as Kisumu County Women Representative. She follows Shabir closely with 4, 881 friends on facebook.

3. James Nyikal

The Seme MP is among the most popular MPs in Kisumu. 

He is being followed by 4, 111 people on Facebook.

Nyakach’s Aduma Owuor follows him with 3, 820 followers while Muhoroni’s James Onyango Koyoo, Kisumu Central’s Fred Ouda and Nyando’s Jared Okello have less than 3, 000 friends each.

Kisumu West MPs John Olago Oluoch’s Facebook account could not be easily established.
