Amani National Congress (ANC) Musalia Mudavadi has hit out at Deputy President William Ruto over his regular trips to the Western Kenya region under the cover of development.
Speaking to the Nation on phone, Mudavadi claimed that Ruto is using public funds, among others, divide the region for his own benefit.
He said that the DP who has since announced his presidential bid for the 2022 general polls has been buying off some area politicians to advance his agenda in the region.
He termed this as the reason behind Ruto's apparently growing strength in the region and an increasing number of followers among elected and vocal leaders and politicians.
“What Ruto is doing is dividing the region by picking MPs, giving them money and pretending to launch development projects in their areas to scuttle the Luhya unity so that the community does not put votes in one basket,” he claimed.
Mudavadi who is considered one of the most influential leaders in Western has also announced his presidential bid for the same race.
He claimed that the projects being popularized by the DP and his sympathisers are non existent and are only a technique to hoodwink the people into his camp.
“What my friend is doing is taking the people of western region through a revolving door because these projects are just a mockery and will not be completed before 2022,” added the former Deputy Premier.
Ruto's latest visit to Western Kenya was on Monday, when he led a host of area leaders to attend a bullfighting event at Malinya Grounds in Kakamega County.
Some of the leaders who have been popularising Ruto's camp include former Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale, Kimilili lawmaker Didmus Barasa and his Sirisia counterpart John Waluke.
