Migori Governor Okoth Obado was subjected to rigorous grilling this week by DCI investigators as they seek to unravel the gruesome murder of Rongo University student Sharon Otieno.
In a statement, Obado dropped a bombshell on Barack Oduor, a journalist who was allegedly abducted with Sharon.
According to the governor, the nation reporter sent him messages warning him about the prospect of matters getting out of hand and the need for him to act with speed.
Oduor is said to have told the governor that failure for him to act would yield dire consequences.
A few days later, Sharon was found dead, the statement says.
Obado's statement adds another layer of complexity to what is proving to be a complex investigation for sleuths who are under mounting public pressure to provide answers.
The slain student was believed to be in a romantic relationship with the Migori County supremo.
