The drivers led by Johnson Omangi while speaking in Keroka town on Monday said the allegations are false.

"Probox drivers observe road rules like any other drivers. Those claiming that the cars are killer vehicles are cartels who should be ignored," said Omangi.

Omangi urged Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang'i to stop his hard stance on Public Service Matatus (PSVs).

Another angry driver David Mogesa urged the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) to probox cars licences to operate.

"We must be given licenses to operate by NTSA because we bought the probox cars on loan and we must repay the loans. NTSA must renew our licences," said Mogesa.

Edgar Onyuri, another driver argued that stopping probox cars from operating will lead to loss of jobs to many young youths.

"Crime will be on the rise once drivers of probox cars will lose their jobs. Our current drivers are adhering to the set traffic rules," said Onyuri.

He said drivers who will be caught overloading the probox cars should be dealt with in accordance with the law.
