After a long political battle between Baringo Senator Gideon Moi and Deputy President William Ruto, Moi seems to be giving up.
In fact, nothing much has been heard from him after the aborted Kabarak handshake where DP Ruto expected to meet retired president Daniel Moi.
Since then, Senator Moi has gone silent. The candidacy of DP Ruto is obvious and has been declared in each and every function he has attended or where his close allies have attended.
With only four years to the general elections, Gideon Moi might find the race unfavourable and may have to withdraw his presidential bid because of the following reasons;
Unity of the Rift Valley region
This region is known to be voting as a block in each general elections. DP Ruto has been termed as the kingpin and the political spokesman of the region and Senator Moi has been trying to outshine him. If he (Moi) fails to win the hearts of the citizens from this region then he will automatically be the loser. The popularity of William Ruto in the Rift Valley is much higher than that of Senator Moi.
The loyalty of William Ruto
Since the entry of DP Ruto into politics back in 1992, he has displayed a high level of loyalty in politics. He remained loyal to retired president Moi during his tenure and it is believed that Mzee Moi is the man behind Ruto’s rise in politics. His loyalty to president Uhuru Kenyatta will automatically earn him Jubilee party ticket and the support of Mt. Kenya region. Senator Moi will have to support Ruto if the DP will promise him his support after the end his tenure and he will not fail him. This assurance is enough to convince Gideon to drop his 2022 candidacy.
