Blogger Robert Alai was detained along with State House intruder Brian Bera by the deadly Anti-Terrorism Police Unit, activist Boniface Mwangi has said.
While Alai was arrested for sharing photos of dead police officers, Bera was arrested at State House last week when he tried to gain access.
State House confirmed the incident, adding that police shot him on the arm when he failed to surrender a knife he had carried along with.
“(He) was shot and wounded on the left shoulder by officers manning the gate after he drew a knife when he was challenged to stop,” the spokesperson Kanze Dena had said.
“State House is a designated protected area under the Protected Areas Act. For that reason no person is allowed access to the premise without the permission of the prescribed authority,” the statement read.
He was taken to Kenyatta National Hospital for treatment and later handed to the ATPU which is strongly investigating the incident.
"I visited @RobertAlai this morning. He says he was held at ATPU together with a student who was arrested trying to get into StateHouse. The student was arrested, beaten and handed over to Anti-Terrorism Police. Police have put a lid on that story to avoid more copycat attempts," said Mwangi.
On his part, Alai was thrown to the detention for another 14 days to allow the police to investigate some of his explosive information on social media.
