Police officers in Homabay are detaining a former Homabay Member of County Assembly (MCA) over the murder of Rongo University student Sharon Otieno.
The ex-Kanyidoto lawmaker Lawrence Mula was arrested and questioned at the Homabay Police Station on Sunday and was set to be arraigned, Monday.
This was after revelations from Nation reporter Barack Oduor that the ex-ward representative introduced him to the deceased.
Oduor was abducted alongside Sharon in Rongo, Migori county Monday night before she was found dead a day later in a forest in Homabay County.
Confirming the arrest and interrogation, Homabay County Commander of Police Marium Tum, however, could not confirm whether he would be arraigned, according to the Nation.
Mula was set to be arraigned alongside Migori Governor Okoth Obado’s aide Michael Oyamo whose name has largely featured in the murder.
Oyamo, however, appeared alone, with the prosecution side seeking permission to hold him for more days to conclude the ongoing investigations.
Obado's aide reportedly tricked Sharon and Oduor into a car outside Graca Hotel in Rongo, claiming to be taking them to a suitable place where he was to equip the reporter with some information regarding an upcoming saga in the county.
The journalist, however, reportedly escaped by jumping off the speeding car, injuring his knees and palms in the process.
