Claims about special treatment of Governor Okoth Obado are 'manufactured propaganda', Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i has said.
Over the weekend, local media reported that Mr. Obado, who is facing murder charges over the death of his girlfriend Sharon Otieno, is being given VIP treatment at Industrial Area prison.
Among the privileges he's accorded, the media reported, include getting food from outside the prison, being in his normal clothes and seeing guests at his own pleasure.
But at Kereri Girls on Monday, the CS insisted that no preferential treatment for capital offenders in prison.
"Our officers have been executing their duties in accordance to the law. There is no such discrimination in our prisons.
"Being a capital offinder, he is being treated as such until he proved his innocence. Let's not rely on propaganda. At lest they can visit and ascertain our position," he said.
A letter allegedly from prison boss Isaiah Osugo also dispelled news about Obado's VIP treatment in the demand.
The ODM county boss will know his fate on October 8th when he returns to court to hear an application he filed for bail.
He is being held along with his aides Michael Oyamo and Caspal Obiero, bodyguard Elvis Omondi and Mr. Jackson Gombe.
