In a report released on Friday, the Kisumu Land Task Force enlisted Oginga among the over 580 individuals and institutions owing the county billions in unpaid land rates.

But in an interview on Radio Citizen Wednesday morning, Nyong’o who is a close ally of opposition leader and Jaramogi’s second-born son Raila Odinga blamed the humiliation on reckless county officials.

He maintained that the report was a draft one not meant for the public, accusing the task force members appointed by him of incompetence.

‘’Hiyo ripoti ilikuwa na makosa. Hawa watu lazima wajue wanafanya nini kazini. Hiki ndicho kinachofuata watu wanapofanya kazi bila kuelewa wanachofaa kukifanya. (This is what happens when we have uninformed persons in an organization),’’ he said.

He noted that he has personally apologized to the Oginga family led by East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) member Oburu Oginga who was also listed as owing the county Sh295, 743 for his plot in Kisumu.

‘’Kama kiongozi nimewaomba msamaha na nataraji tutaendelea kushirikiana kwa manufaa ya kaunti yetu. (I have apologized and I now look forward for a continuation of the cooperation we have always had for the sake of our county),’’ he added.

According to the report which has since led to protest from a section of the family members, the late Oginga owes the county Sh7, 774, 099 for his piece of land Kisumu bloc 12/222.
