Narc party leader Martha Karua has declined to offer her support for Deputy President William Ruto in his quest for the presidential seat.
Speaking to Citizen TV during the Day Break Show on Wednesday, the former presidential candidate said she cannot support DP Ruto because of the challenges facing him.
“Those are my personal views and there are many issues and some of them surround involve Chapter 6 of the constitution,” she said.
The former Gichugu Member of Parliament defended her support for the Jubilee party during the 2017 re-election stating that she was supporting President Uhuru Kenyatta.
“To support them (President Kenyatta and DP Ruto) as a duo was a difficult decision. His choice of a deputy was his not mine,” she said.
Surprisingly, she defended DP Ruto’s eligibility to vie for presidency come 2022 General elections.
According to Karua, Ruto is eligible to vie for the presidency even after serving in government as deputy president for two terms.
“Constitutionally a deputy president can vie for president despite having served for two terms as deputy,” she tweeted.
This comes days after Jubilee party vice-chairman David Murathe had threatened to block DP Ruto from vying through the courts.
