Opposition leader Raila Odinga’s eldest son’s death on January, 4, 2015 shocked the nation, and was a big blow to both the Odinga family, and the entire Luo community.
Fidel who was viewed as a possible replacement of his father and the heir to the Odinga family’s political domination in Luo Nyanza was found dead in his Karen home.
By the time of his death, the father of one had already built a young man’s house, popularly known as ‘simba’ at his father’s home in Bondo, Siaya county.
Inside the house, on his burial day, lied many pictures of himself and some that he had taken with internationally celebrated musicians, including Jamaican reggae legend Don Carlos and American rapper Scarface.
Also in the house were pictures of departed Cuban President Fidel Castro after whom he was named, former Ethiopian leader Haile Selassie and and Argentine Marxist Revolutionary Che Guevara.
Fidels house which is rather palatial is set to remain unoccupied throughout its existence, in line with the Luo traditions.
His demise came 21 years after the death of his grandfather and the first Vice President of the republic Jaramogi Oginga Odinga who succumbed to heart attack in January 1994.
He was mourned as a jovial and easygoing young man.
