Celebrated Kenyan musician Kagwe Mungai, is yet again expected to treat his fans to a string of good music with the anticipated release of his new album titled, Spectrum.
In this new album, there are 10 things that are revealed that shed more light as to who he is and his musical career.
Here are the 10 things you should know about Spectrum:
1. The meaning is all in the title
Kagwe has really pushed himself and explored all avenues in creating this masterpiece. With his music engineering background, the diversity in the album makes you journey through different sounds in such a way you just drift off from one tune to the next.
2. This is Kagwe’s first ever album, after releasing several singles and collabos.
3. It has 12 tracks
Mastering 12 songs does not even begin to explain how much energy went in towards the artwork that will be sampled therein.
4. Special features
The album features a few well-known Kenyan homegrown artistes which add a special voice to the album.
5. One of the songs almost didn't make it to the track
Kagwe was too emotional about one of the singles on the tracks. He couldn't bring himself to let the world hear it due to the vulnerability it exposed.
6. His mom gave him blessings to write/ publish one of the songs (Ogopa Mungu)
This uplifting track will be released as a single before the big album launch.
7. The launch date was May 4
Coinciding with the famous Star Wars Day, Kagwe is a big fan of the franchise and decided it best to commemorate it alongside his album-launch, however, he decided to push the date which will be announced soon. Regardless...“May the 4th be with you”.
8. Expect merchandise
What would an album launch be without all the lovely trinkets? Expect the likes of actual autographed albums to be on sale, as well as t-shirts, hats, khangas etc to be available on the day.
9. Expect a global tour
Kagwe Mungai is taking this album around the world. After his launch in Kenya, he plans to tour in different continents, spreading the love for Kenyan music.
10. Evolution
As part of his personal motto, Spectrum showcases the evolution of KagweMungai’s sound. He brings out the diversity of what it means to be an African artist on a global stage.
