Three suspects linked to the kidnapping of an Italian aid worker, Silvia Romano, have been detained for 30 days to allow detectives time to conclude investigations.
The three suspects, Mohamed Abdirahman Abdille, Aden Hassan and Mohamed Ibrahim Bayow were arrested in Garissa Town last week.
According to detectives, the three were arrested in possession of unlicensed firearms.
Detectives believe that the Somali nationals have a connection to the aid worker’s abduction.
On Thursday, Nairobi’s Milimani Senior Principal Magistrate Martha Mutuku allowed detectives to detain the suspects pending the conclusion of the investigation.
Romano was abducted on November 20 in Chakama village, Kilifi county.
The operation to rescue her is still going on with security forces pitching camp in Garissa, Kilifi, Tana River and Lamu in the hunt for the abductors.
Last month, detectives traced the kidnappers to Garissa with fears that the abductors were planning to cross over to Somalia.
Two weeks ago, Garissa Township MP Aden Duale urged security forces to speed up a rescue operation for the aid worker.
He also asked security forces not to harass Garissa residents as they pursue the aid worker's abductors.
