President Uhuru Kenyatta is serving his second and final term in office.
As the president serves his final term, there are some Cabinet Secretaries in his government who are likely to seek elective seats in the 2022 general election.
These Cabinet Secretaries once served as politicians in elective seats before they were appointed to the Cabinet.
Here are CSs who are likely to contest for elective seats in the much awaited 2022 general election.
1. Eugene Wamalwa
The Devolution CS served as the Saboti MP before he was appointed to the Cabinet by Uhuru.
Wamalwa is likely to contest in the 2022 general election once president Uhuru's term ends.
There is speculation that he could bid for the Trans-Nzoia top seat in 2022.
Wamalwa has however not hinted on whether he has interests in the polls.
2. Mwangi Kiunjuri
The Agriculture CS is likely to venture into elective politics in 2022.
In the 2017 general election, Kiunjuri was allegedly seeking to contest for the Laikipia governor seat before President Kenyatta convinced him not contest because he needed him in his Cabinet. He is likely to fulfil his gubernatorial dream.
3. Najib Balala
The Tourism Cabinet Secretary is also likely to seek an elective seat once his contract with Jubilee government expires in 2022.
The former Mvita MP is said to be eyeing to succeed Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho. Balala is among the veteran politicians and public officers in the larger Coast region.
4. Charles Keter
He was the Kericho Senator before his appointment to the Cabinet by President Kenyatta.
Being a close political ally to Deputy President William Ruto, chances of him (Keter) seeking an elective seat in 2022 general election are high.
5. Fred Matiang'i
A section of politicians especially from Gusii region is piling pressure on the Interior Cabinet Secretary to seek an elective seat in 2022 polls.
Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria who has declared an interest to contest for the presidency in 2022 has been quoted saying he will pick Matiangi'i as his running mate.
Matiang'i is among best-performing CSs in president Kenyatta's administration.
Only time will tell.
