COTU Secretary General Francis Atwoli has hit out at the government for its failure to get a clear deal for Kenyan workers who have been working tirelessly to grow the country's economy.
Speaking on KTN's checkpoint on Sunday, the vocal trade unionist said they have been engaging the government but it has been 'dumb' on matters employees.
"For the past two decades, we have been negotiating with the government for minimum wage but have not gotten anything," Atwoli said.
He admitted that he is 'tired' of negotiating with the employer who does not want to reach him at the table to level grounds of employees welfare noting that "the employer-employee relationship is just like marriage, in which one cannot negotiate under duress".
The COTU boss further noted that Kenyans are hardworking citizens who surpass their daily targets but their efforts are given a white berth by the state hence demoralizing the working spirit who has been the powerhouse of the economic strength for ages despite challenges.
After the economic hurdles Kenyan workers and citizens underwent since last year, the workers expected President Uhuru Kenyatta to give them a sigh of relief during Labour day celebrations only for their wishes not get even an ear as the head of state did not attend the celebrations. He was in China for official duties.
