Deputy President William Ruto is a man in trouble and a leader whose days at the helm are numbered.
The DP is warming up to the 2022 presidential contest yet already grappling with a possible collapsing Jubilee Party, the block whose unity was his guarantee for the seat.
On Friday, a group of Central Kenya leaders announced plans to decamp to the Democratic Party, this will leave him alone as the Mt Kenya region forms the remaining half of the party.
It is very likely that the group led by Gatundu South lawmaker Moses Kuria will shift its allegiance and though a few might remain in Jubilee, Ruto's calculations will have been spoiled.
And with President Uhuru Kenyatta who vowed to back him in 2022 still silent through apparently aware of the ongoings, its clear that Ruto will have been completely isolated by 2022.
Let it not be forgotten that Jubilee only narrowly beat opposition leader Raila Odinga in 2017, meaning that a slight breakup will make it easier for Ruto to lose.
The DP will also lose as a result of his cocky nature and unwillingness to be humble as he has been heard saying that he doesn't need an endorsement to win the seat.
This could further push Uhuru's allies away, considering that the region is not known to support another person apart from her own.
This will leave Ruto, who has also been very busy making enemies with other leaders in the opposition who might be of help.
Without the Central Kenya backing and that of Raila who is also said to be eyeing the same seat, then Ruto will comfortably find himself in the opposition in 2022.
He is also facing rebellion at his doorstep in the name of a number of MPs who have been accusing him of several things including graft and incompetence . This will push Kenyans away as they will find it hard to believe that Ruto can handle an entire nation if he cannot handle a few MPs in his Rift Valley backyard.
Ruto will confidently approach the polls but will be twenty meters behind the next day as the tally continues because he will be all alone, will not have any grounds to oppose the outcome.
