In Kano Plains, Kisumu county, money is not an issue, especially among the youth, and easily comes as long as you can identify the income generating openings and maximize on them.
Bragging of both sugarcane and rice farming and fishing on the Lake Victoria, making money is easy as long as you can master how to do the required job.
Having grown up in the region, I observed that most young people from the area spend their cash in the following ways, once it trickles into their pockets;
1. Fun and partying
Kano, just like other regions, has a number of bars and fun spots, among the most popular ones being the Kanyakla Club in Ombeyi market at the middle of Muhoroni constituency.
Consequently, the youth tour such places for fun and drinks after job.
2. Bikes
With the arrival of motorbikes, otherwise known as 'peng' in most regions of the Luo Nyanza province, most young people, especially the male, have become attracted to the transport vessels.
Judging by its ability to crisscross the bushy and narrow village routes and power to access most of the places in the region which usually turn completely muddy during rainy seasons, everybody is investing in 'apiko'.
3. Kisumu City
Kano plains borders Kisumu city to the West, making the city the best place to visit when the salary jets in.
When they tour, they are most likely to bring with them farm inputs for the next season, clothes, urban foodstuff like spaghetti which remains unpopular in the village or even come back drunk!
Now you know.
