Nakuru County Government is planning to build a ‘Green Park’ for residents to be resting.

The ‘Green Park’ starts from Eveready Roundabout to Free Area.

It will involve greening the road areas along this route.

Already, the Lee Kinyanjui-led government has given notice to florists who operate along Section 58 to move out by March 31, 2019.

“We have been told to leave this place with reports that the governor is building a park here,” a florist, who preferred anonymity, said.

The section along 58 has been one of the green sites in the county all seasons as the men and women grow flowers, trees and vegetables to sell to residents.

It is also a favourite for residents walking from Section 58 to town due to the fresh air and breeze oozing from the flower nurseries.

According to John Karanja, a resident, the governor should not be in a hurry to kick out the florists.

“We enjoy the breeze here and these people have made this place beautiful. Before they came here, it was a den for open defecation. If the governor is serious with his beautification project, let him first work on Nyayo Gardens, Lions Garden and other areas before kicking out these people,” Karanja said.

The florists, albeit in hushed tones, fault Governor Kinyanjui’s move.

“Why is he doing this to us? Is this the Jibu he promised? All of us cannot work in the office, why can’t he let us get our livehood from here?” one of the florists, who we cannot name for fear of victimization, said.

She added:

“Are there artels misleading the governor? Now tell me, I have been given up to March … where do I take all these flowers?”
