Speaker of the Machakos County Assembly Florence Mwangangi is engrossed in local politics instead of effectively discharging her constitutional mandate.
This is according to Governor Alfred Mutua who claimed the speaker is being politically misused by his enmities to frustrate his administration.
The governor said Mwangangi should relinquish her seat and be elected by the locals if she is interested in the local politics.
"The speaker was elected by a paltry 50 people, she should come out and be elected by the residents if she is interested in local politics," said Mutua.
Mutua spoke during a leaders’ meeting in Machakos town on Monday.
He said if Mwangangi recognizes that she is the speaker who was elected by 50 people, then she should know there is a government with a governor, his deputy, County Executives (CeCs) and Members off County Assembly (MCAs).
Mutua said some people peddle propaganda in Machakos County because they fear change.
He said the Machakos County assembly was out to frustrate his government.
“They declined to approve my nominated CECs. Their plan was to frustrate Mutua so that residents suffer. They are so much focused on Mutua than anything else,” said Mutua.
Mutua said the MCAs read the constitution upside down but he got it right by going ahead to appoint the CECs without the assembly’s approval.
He said the county legislatures should be advised to stop politicking for it will take them nowhere.
Mutua said he is ready to meet the MCAs.
