Known for his stylish way of facing issues, Simba Arati caused a stir on Saturday when he tasked Raila Odinga to explain the whereabouts of businessman Don Bosco Gichana, who has been languishing in Arusha prison for five years.
And encouraged by a cheering crowd, Arati demanded to know why the former Prime Minister had gone mum over the matter despite promising to have Mr. Gichana released in his previous visits.
"Bwana Prime Minister, we are not happy. We have our brother who remains in prison yet he has never been charged," he fired.
Accused of money laundering and fraud, Arati has languished in Arusha prison with prosecution unable to prove its case.
Seemingly unprepared, Raila fumbled to give satisfactory explanation, only to give usual rhetoric and promises.
"I hear you and I know Gichana. I am looking into the issue and hopefully things will change," he said, veering off from his main task of closing KICOSCA games.
Thereafter, Twitter users were awash of Raila's 'endless' promises over Mr. Gichana, a one time close ally.
When President John Magufuli took over in 2016, Raila promised to have Gichama's matter handled expeditiously, something yet to happen three years later.
Mr. Arati has positioned himself as Gusii Community spokesman with analysts linking him to 2022 Kisii gubernatorial seat
