Women in Borabu, Nyamira county have vowed to fight and bring to an end Female Genital Mutilation (FGM).
Led by Ann Kemunto, they promised that they will traverse the county to educate parents on the dangers associated with FGM.
"We want our girls to be spared. Many parents force young girls to undergo the outlawed exercise because they lack information on the dangers associated with FGM," she noted.
She appealed to men in the region to join the campaign, adding that is FGM mostly practiced during holidays must stop.
"Men should be at the front line campaigning against FGM. Female leaders from Nyamira County must also step up efforts to end FGM," she added.
A local politician Rachael Otundo reached for a comment said cases of FGM has gone down due to the intensified campaigns.
"More women should join the campaign to ensure reported FGM cases becomes to zero," said Otundo.
She challenged local chiefs to be vigilant, apprehend and arraign in court parents forcing young girls to undergo FGM.
"Chiefs with the help of community policing officers should not spare parents condoning FGM," she added.
