Embattled Migori Governor Okoth Obado will two more nights at the Industrial Area prison in Nairobi pending his bond and bail ruling on Thursday.
Milimani High Court Judge Jessie Lessit will make the ruling on Thursday at 2 PM.
The court set the date after hearing Obado’s application to be granted bond or bail on Tuesday.
Obado’s lawyers told the court that he is entitled to bond as provided for in the constitution.
Obado has been charged with the murder of Rongo University Student Sharon Otieno.
He pleaded not guilty to the murder charge on Monday.
The prosecution led by Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions (DDPP) Jacob Ondari is opposing Obado’s release on bond or bail on grounds that he is likely to interfere with witnesses if released.
The prosecution also argues that the governor is a person of influence and is likely to compromise the security of other suspects who are yet to be brought to court.
The prosecution further argues that the murder charge facing Obado is complex and serious hence the denial of bond or bail.
Other suspects linked to Sharon Otieno’s murder are expected to be arraigned before court on Wednesday.
