Addressing the press at Sosoni in Marafa, Magarini sub-county, Dr Oseko said that the defilement statistics in Kilifi county are alarming compared to other counties.

“The statistics of defilement cases we have as the judiciary are indicating that the problem of defilement in Kilifi County is huge,” she added.

The Chief Magistrate added that despite handling increasing cases of defilement cases, most of them fail due to lack of enough evidence, adding that equipping hospitals and clinics with DNA machines will bail out the situation.

On his part, Marafa MCA Renson Kambi, said that the failure of cases is caused by the suspects interfering with case proceedings, adding that the DNA machines planned to be installed in hospitals will be a significant boost to strengthen the prosecution side.

“These machines will automatically tell if the suspect did the act or not, instead of struggling with cases whose evidence is too weak to grant the girls justice,” Kambi said.
