Squatters evicted from Athinai estate in Mogotio are accusing police officers of colluding with the owner of the estate to harass them.
They said they have been harassed by estate guards who are allegedly colluding with police officers.
They also accused police of injuring several people on Wednesday.
Addressing media at the Mogotio sub-county hospital, the squatters called on the government to intervene.
They said their last year’s eviction from Athinai estate was illegal since they were not served with a court order.
The families lived at the expansive farm for more than 40 years.
Josephine Lumulwe said she is nursing injuries inflicted by police beatings.
“We were seriously beaten by the police who kept asking us why we were still around the estate yet we were evicted. We sustained injuries and that is why we sought treatment here,” she said.
Hamisi Nasoro, a resident of Mogotio, regretted the turn of events.
“The situation has led to a high number of street children who are now camping in the market places and we are calling on the government to assist address the situation,” said Mr.Nasoro.
Area deputy county commissioner Albert Mwaringa said the matter will be investigated.
“We shall investigate the matter. However what I know we have an operation against illicit brew in the area, no other operation to harass the locals” he said.
