Retired President Mwai Kibaki was not happy when former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka opposed the referendum in 2005.
Kalonzo was among the leaders who rejected the constitutional changes suggested by various politicians in the draft during that time.
The Ukambani political kingpin who had become a strong Kanu party hawk stood against Kibaki.
The relationship between the two became frosty.
Kalonzo later decided to take a different political route as he sought to become the Kenyan President.
The Wiper leader unsuccessfully contested for the Presidential seat in 2007 polls.
His political stars did not shine bright enough after he emerged third in the race.
Kalonzo's hope of becoming the next President was reignited when Kibaki appointed him the Vice President in 2008 following the disputed Presidential election.
The move was reached as Kibaki fought to strengthen his political base for an easy ruling.
Kalonzo’s hope of being endorsed by Kibaki hit a dead end when the latter decided to support President Uhuru Kenyatta, a move that took Kalonzo by surprise.
Kalonzo later decided to rejoin ODM leader Raila Odinga under the Cord Coalition as they sought to take over leadership from the ruling coalition.
Their efforts, however, did not bear fruits.
Kalonzo has since declared that he will contest for the Presidency in 2022.
