A Nairobi residence owned by controversial businessman Paul Kobia has been raided by sleuths from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations.

The raid comes on the heels of allegations from a foreigner that he was duped millions of shillings in the fake gold scam, NTV reports.

It is not clear the exact amount of money that Paul Kobia is alleged to have duped the foreigner.

Mr Kobia was reportedly in the Riverside Drive residence as the officers raided it with a view of collecting evidence that could see them press charges.

The investigative officers from the DCI Serious Crimes Unit arrived at the residence at around 10am on Wednesday.

Workers in the businessman's residence were interrogated.

At the time of going to press, the businessman had not publicly addressed the claims of the foreigner.

The fake gold scandal shone a spotlight on a syndicate said to have duped foreigners millions of shillings.

Scores of arrests have been made by the DCI and a number of people arraigned in court to answer to an array of charges pressed against them.

Among those swindled is the ruler of Dubai Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.

Paul Kobia has curved the reputation of a flamboyant businessman known to flash his wealth.
