Until now, Migori Governor Okoth Obado may be contemplating how he found himself behind police cells over Sharon Otieno's murder, whose investigations are now at the peak.
Recalled due to preliminary evidence that linked his aides, Obado had stubbornly exonerated himself despite conceding that he had impregnated her.
"I have absolutely nothing to do with her death. Police should speedy the investigations so that we can know her real killers," he said in a statement.
But last Friday, hours after being identified as a person of interest after DNA test of the unborn baby, Obado would be an official guest of the state.
And a detective, who spoke in confidence, says evidence given by a taxi driver, whose identity still remains at large, linked directly Mr. Obado to crime scene.
"Of course we traced him in Kisii and Kodera on call data. But we also have a taxi driver, who drove him, witnessed the murder and later on recorded a statement at Oyugis," he said.
The driver is now under witness protection and is said to be key witness who will be produced later on when the prosecution reaches a crucial stage.
His evidence corroborated also with that given by Jackson Gombe, another driver who drove Toyota Fielder that was allegedly used in abduction.
Oyugis OCS James Magiri however denies knowledge of the secret taxi driver being relied on by detectives.
“The matter was being handled by officers from the homicide unit who camped here. I don’t know if an informer gave them such information,” said Magiri.
Top detective George Kinoti could not deny or admit of the existence of the taxi driver but said with time, the public shall know.
He said: “I can neither deny nor confirm. Maybe such information will come out in the course of ongoing investigations.”
