The family of slain Rongo University student Sharon Otieno has denied claims of seeking financial support from Migori Governor Zachary Okoth Obado.
Sharon’s mother Melida Auma, stated that they have never sought financial support from Obado, or any member of the Migori county government.
She termed the allegations which surfaced on social media, as lies advanced by the governor’s supporters.
“We do not want to be involved in any way with Migori County or any of its employees. We have not asked for any help from them. We know some of those producing and spreading such news are Obado’s people,” she is quoted by the Nation.
She urged a section of Kenyans, especially those aligned to Obado to stop spreading false messages.
Ms Otieno was murdered last month by unknown people, and her body dumped at the Kodera forest, Homabay County
She was seven months pregnant with DNA tests indicating the baby belonged to Obado.
The 26-year old was abducted alongside Nation Media Group Homabay based reporter Barack Oduor.
Oduor survived the ordeal by allegedly jumping off the abductors speeding car.
So far, three suspects have been arrested in connection to the murder. Governor Obado and his Personal Assistant (PA) Michael Oyamo are among those being held.
