Residents of Msasongo in Kisii County were left in a rude shock after a woman burnt her 8-year-old step-daughter with a hot kitchen knife.
The incident happened on Sunday.
Masongo sub-location assistant chief Wilter Nyaboke confirmed the incident and said the woman identified as Winnie Kwamboka burnt the minor on grounds that she stole Sh20. The minor is a pupil at a local primary school.
"Kwamboka has been living with the minor in a rented house after the girl's mother separated from her husband 6 years ago. She found her Sh20 missing from her handbag and upon questioning the victim whether she is the one who took the money and when she refused, she put a kitchen knife in a fire until it got red-hot before she burnt her on the buttocks, private parts and thighs," said the chief.
The minor was rescued from the house by neighbours who beat up the step-mother before police rushed to the scene and rescued her.
Both the victim and the suspect were taken to Kisii teaching and referral hospital where they're being treated and are in stable condition according to a police report.
