President Uhuru Kenyatta has made a passionate appeal to Kenyans to 'get back to work and build the nation', over 15 overs after the 14 Riverside Drive terror attack was first recorded.
Members of the public and security forces were treated yet again to another horrendous attack on the Westlands part of Nairobi with an operation launched by elite forces coming to an end minutes before noon on Wednesday.
At State House Nairobi, contrary to Westgate Mall attack in 2013, President Uhuru Kenyatta addressed the media where he gave the official report on casualties on the attack.
Uhuru said:"I can now confirm that as of one hour ago, all terrorists have been neutralized and the operation at Dusit has come to an end. 700 civillians were evacuated from the compound but unfortunately we lost 14 lives.
"We have dealt with the threat decisively to show the world what happens to those who dare to harm our people," added a visibly angered president, whose regime has witnessed more terror attacks than any other since Independence.
Eyewitnesses said that the attackers, believed to be five, descended in the queit yet the busy 14 Riverside Drive Complex on Tuesday minutes past 3pm local time but security forces were able to respond swiftly.
Putting on a brave face, Uhuru asked Kenyans to continue being vigilant, adding that the solidarity in social media groups 'proved to the world what Kenya is made of'.
"Let us go back to work and build our country. We shall ensure planners and executors are brought to book. I thank our security forces for the good job they have done," Uhuru said, adding that the assailants had been killed.
Photos circulating on social media forums showed disfigured faces of two terrorists believed to have been part of operation that Somali based militants Al Shabaab claimed responsibility on Tuesday.
Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i, in his second press conference on Wednesday, said the operation had come to an end, adding that detectives will take over to unearth the mystery behind it.
He said: "This has come to an end. Let's now get back to work. The DCI George Kinoti has officially taken over and we shall expose the planners soon."
