A woman is nursing serious injuries after angry villagers attacked her over witchcraft allegations.
The incident happened on Tuesday at Miruka in Bonyaiguba, Nyamira County.
Locals claimed that the suspect, Philomena Omweri has been carrying out witchcraft for over 5 years.
"We have been warning her to stop her witchcraft but, she could not listen. She bewitched her neighbor's son who is now a cripple. We stormed her house and beaten her thoroughly," said a local Michael Sobei.
According to Sobei, Mrs. Omweri who is a widow has until Monday next week to surrender her witchcraft tools to the church.
"She will be forced to relocate from the village if she can't produce the witchcraft tools by Monday next week," he noted.
Peter Onkundi, a local administrator said witchcraft is rampant in the area.
"Locals should shun the shameful witchcraft practices to avoid unnecessary beatings from members of the public," he said.
The chief warned locals against taking the law into their hands, adding that crime suspect must be surrendered to authorities.
He urged Mrs. Omweri to surrender her witchcraft so that she can't get trouble from villagers in future.
