Seven children, five girls and two boys are currently fighting for their lives in hospital after they allegedly consumed poisoned food.
It is alleged that the victims, who were eight in number, ate the poisoned food on Sunday evening in Bigogo village, where one of them died from the poison. This happened in Boronyi in Nyaribari Chache constituency, Kisii County.
Area chief Naftal Ntabo confirmed the incident saying the deceased's mother abandoned the kids at home after a disagreement with her husband Charles Onwong'a who works in Nairobi.
"The victims ate food which was cooked by their aunt who they have been living after they were abandoned by their mother. The food was cooked and packed by the aunt who left for a journey," said the chief.
Ntabo noted that immediately the kids ate the food, they started complaining of stomach pain prompting neighbours to rush them to various hospital in Kisii.
"5 kids were admitted at Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital, one is admitted at Ogembo hospital while one is at a local hospital in the town where they are responding well to medication," said the chief.
He said someone might have poisoned the food to implicate the victims' aunt to be the one who poisoned them.
