The big cat said to have strayed from a nearby park has allegedly been troubling livestock owners in the area, and has so far killed over 30 goats and other animals.

Samuel Ng'ang'a, on Thursday, trapped and captured the leopard and called in officers from the Kenya Wildlife Services (KWS) to see animal that has been troubling them.

He said that the service had refused to help them capture the animal, claiming that their livestock was being killed by a dog and not leopard as claimed.

“We have lost a lot of goats and sheep in the last one month when the stray leopard invaded the area. But KWS officers refused to assist maintaining that the animals were killed by dogs. It has killed thirteen of my sheep and a calf,” said Ng'ang'a.

The capture saw locals troop to his home in amusement, some of whom had also lost thousands of shillings worth of killed animals.

They said that KWS officials have been arrogant when approached with the matter.

“I wanted us to kill the animal to teach the KWS a lesson; they are very rude and arrogant when we report the cases to them. We suspect there are more than three marauding leopards in the area. KWS must trap and capture them before they cause more damage,” said Vincent Waweru.

Daniel Mathu from Mawingu location said that he has lost six animals. KWS officers arrived and collected the leopard.
