Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho has challenged coastal musicians to compose songs that promote peace. He even offered to help them with the lyrics if they are not able to come up with one.
“Those artist who are here, start composing songs that promote peace. I can write for you the lyrics. It does not need a Sheikh or Bishop to talk peace. Everyone can talk peace,” Joho stated during the Mombasa Youth Convention and Global Migration Film Festival at Aga Khan Academy Hall on Monday 10.
Joho promised to organise a campaign against social ills where everyone is involved including the artists. He said that everyone has a role to play.
“We shall run ‘a get involved campaign’. Everyone has to understand that he has a role to play,” he added.
The governor also said that the coastal problem is being handled poorly. He pointed out extrajudicial killings and what he termed as forceful disappearances as the serious issues in Mombasa that need real solutions as opposed to blame games.
“We need to address real issues. Forceful disappearances is an important conversation. Extrajudicial killings confuse us. Some blame the police while others say it is the outcome of internal wrangles within criminal gangs,” he said.
