In the former President Moi’s regime, it was only normal when you saw him at gatherings with school children singing and dancing praise songs for him.

Never at any time did Moi go missing from the public domain, unless otherwise.

However, sometime in January 1995, Moi went missing for a whole week.

Everyone in the country got worried as this was out of the norm.

However, this was a move used by the former Head of the State to break down all his opponents.

Moi went missing at a time Kiraitu Murungi, Anyang Nyong’o, Kivutha Kibwana, Mukhisa Kituyi and Paul Muite were planning to register a party (Mwangaza Trust) to oppose his rule.

The four had the backing of a number of NGOs including countries like USA and Germany.

Moi realised this was going to give him a lot of trouble and thus opted to keep a low profile.

This caused anxiety around the nation with some people speculating that the Head of State was sick.

Just like Moi had hoped, his silence caused fear and panic hence handling pressure from his opponents.

He later resurfaced at the City Hall and declared he was fit and well.

News from the State House later revealed that “people” were working secretly to destabilise Kenya and finally overthrow the government.

This news contained the Mwangaza Trust and the resistance front which were working against the government in style.
