Kisumu Governor Anyang' Nyong'o, his Kirinyaga counterpart Anne Waiguru, and three other county bosses are in a heated contest to replace Turkana Governor Josphat Nanok in the upcoming Council of Governors (CoG) elections.
The poll will be used to elect officials for the council.
Apart from Waiguru and Nyong'o; Governors; Jackson Mandago (Uasin Gishu) Salim Mvurya (Kwale) and Wycliffe Oparanya (Kakamega) have also expressed interest in being the council's chair.
Currently, Nanok is the chair, deputized by Waiguru.
Before the current regime, the council was chaired by former Meru Governor Peter Munya, deputized by Mvurya.
Out of the six contestants, four (Mandago, Oparanya, Mvurya, and Nanok) are serving their last term, while Waiguru and Prof Nyong'o are in their first terms.
